This course adopts a contemporary international approach to Counter-terrorism, Security and Intelligence. This course will prepare students for the new world of preventing, managing and responding to issues and events which are detrimental to the individuals, organisations, communities and nations. The development of multi-skilled operatives who are able to lead organizational and community initiatives in this field as well as provide expert advice and planning is a key outcome of these units. This course will provide the professional operative with the underpinning knowledge of international relations, terrorism and its prevention/management, security in the community and organisational and infrastructure context and the skills to operate within a specialised branch or discipline within the counter terror arena.

   Objectives

The Bachelor of Science (Security) course is designed to develop knowledge and skills in security management and security technologies necessary for employment in such areas as: government security, private sector security, strategic facilities security, retail security, financial institutions security, corporate security, and major security organisations.

   Programme Outline

The course emphasises security risk and the function and management of security technology in the protection of assets, and is supported by appropriate studies in law and ethics. Graduates will be well equipped for a career in the security industry. Graduates are well equipped for a career in the security industry.

   Programme Duration

The Bachelor of Science (Security) is a three year course currently available by full-time or part-time study on Joondalup campus. It is also available by external study.Students are required to complete a core of 16 units (240 credit points) offered across four schools and to choose a major of 8 units (120 credit points) offered from Computer Studies, Security Science, International and Cultural Studies and Law and Justice.

Polytechnic and relevant diploma holders will be granted advanced standing into the 2nd year of the programme

The classes will be delivered via face-to-face lectures with professors from ECU. Each unit is supported with 24 to 30 hours of seminars/workshops (4 consecutive sessions) after office hours in the evening/or over weekends/public holidays. This course can be completed in 20 months and is delivered in a modular structure of 1 unit every 2 months consisting of 24 to 32 hrs per unit. Classes are conducted on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday by Faculty Professors flown in from overseas.

This course will be fully taught by the faculty Professor in ECU. The professors will usually stay in Singapore for 1 - 2 weeks and may be available for additional academic consultation with students outside classroom hours.

    Assessment Scheme

Each course is assessed by written assignments and an examination.

   Entry Criteria

  • Polytechnic and Commercial Diploma holders
  • Students without academic qualifications but with over 5 years may be accepted on a case to case basis
  • "N", "O", "A" and ITE graduates can entry the programme upon completion of SMa Professional Diploma in Security Management

   Application Procedure

Interested applicants are required to submit the following:

    • Duly-completed application form that can be obtained from SMa School of Management or SMa web site
    • Certified true copies of all education certificates and transcripts
    • Application processing fee of S$20 (non-refundable)

* Reservations will not be entertained.

   Withdrawal & Deferment

All notice of withdrawal must be in writing. A full refund of the course fees paid will be made if notice of withdrawal is received more than 60 days before course commencement. If notice of withdrawal is received between 60 to 30 days before course commencment, 75% of course fees paid will be refunded.

No refund will be made after the course has commenced. Course Fee paid will not be refunded in the event of deferment regardless of whether the request made is prior to commencement or after the commencement of the course.

   Changes & Amendments

SMa reserves the right to make changes to the programme structure, admission requirements, course fee, examination rules and regulations, lecturers, date and venue of lectures.
